About

I am a doctoral student at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My biggest fascination currently is the property rights in land and the implications of various property arrangements for economic development in rapidly urbanizing countries, such as China.

I am currently working on my dissertation which focuses on the changing urbanization pattern in China, through the specific cases of land management change, property rights re-allocation, and the hukou (residential registration) system reform. My main case cities are Chongqing and Chengdu, but I will also refer practices in Tianjin, Wenzhou and Jiaxing. I just conducted a first-round of field visits to the above cities earlier this year, and plan to go again some time next year. My dissertation is still work in the early state but I am fascinated by my topic.

Prior to coming to MIT, I worked for three years with the World Bank Institute in Washington D.C., mainly focusing on capacity building and training programs in the field of urban management and planning for developing countries.

I also had a background in International Relations. I obtained both my Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in that field, from University of Toronto, Canada, and Peking (Beijing) University, China, respectively.

Studying international development through the lens of urban issues is a totally exciting enterprise for me.  Please drop me a line if you share similar interests and passion!
